for halloween, at work, we, as the it department dressed as firepeople. we had shirts made up that said ITFD on the back; we decorated our office in firefighting stuff; we even had a pole coming from the ceiling with a guy sliding down it.
one of the ladies i work with arranged to have the richardson fire department come out with sirens and horns for our skit in front of the rest of the building. it was good times.
over a lunch meeting, i got bored, and took a picture of my fire hat and cap.

tis been a long day. i might get around to posting more pictures later on.

you know, same ole shiz.
colby’s last day was thursday. neo started wednesday though, so hopefully in about a week things will be running pretty normally. there’s so much that needs to be done around the office… bleh.
i dont have alot to report these days. i goto work, come home to eat and sleep, then repeat. susan did get a great dane saturday. she’ll probably be upset i blogged about it first, but heh, she never blogs anyways. :-p
mandy is doing a talk tomorrow at her church. we did not talk about me going. i’ll be going to the church i went to last week again. it seemed like a good congregation. they have a strong young adult group. thats something i’ve been looking for.
bleh, it’s 1am. i’m going to bed.
The things that I’ve loved the things that I’ve lost
The things I’ve held sacred that I’ve dropped
I won’t lie no more you can bet
I don’t want to learn what I’ll need… to forget

this week is still not over… i spent a lot of my work day in a conference room working with our network admin, who is from my office in richardson, over a new video conference bridge we’re testing and demo’ing. at some point today, my boss sent out an email explaining my promotion. from then on, up till about an hour ago, my email inbox has been assaulted with “congrats” emails. i’m determined to write a personal message back to everyone. it’s just the kind of thing i do.
here lately i’ve been thinking a lot about which direction my life is going. not so much about where i want to go, but more about how everyday life treats me. along time ago, while i was still in high school, i learned that if i did not put a lot of care into the quantity of my work, my quality shot way up. suddenly, i enjoyed doing a little bit of studying in classes i never liked before. my grades went up in all classes because i became a more positive person, seeing an improvement in classes i did ok in, but never really enjoyed. since then, i’ve gotten to the point where i’m more laid back about a lot of things. urgency is a thing of the past. time frames are figurative. deadlines don’t worry me. i say this all, knowing good and well, that i would not have a job if i continually did not prioritize urgency, overshot time frames, and missed deadlines.
so lately, i’ve been studying up on how to get things done. how to prioritize my time, so that i am not bothered so much by heavy work loads during stressful times. so far i’ve learned that people can live without email. well, i know i cant, because one of the two ways you get help from me, is by email. more power to those who have gotten away, but scratch that. i’ve also learned that people stay on time not by watching the clock, but rather, not watching it. i have not seen a good enough example of this one yet. i’m late to EVERYTHING as it is. i feel, not having a watch would be a bad idea for me personally; but maybe i just have not seen a good enough example just yet.
so how do you prioritize your schedule and life? how do you find “life hacks” to cut corners around meaningless tasks, while maintaining urgency, time frames, and deadlines?
here’s a link with more ideas.
