wow

so i realized today that thanksgiving is just two weeks away…

mandy has told me she would help me start on cleaning up around my apartment; last night she took initiative and really dove in.  today whenever i got home from work, i had plans to get some things done i need to work on so i started off by tackling my desk to get things cleaned up so i could use my desktop that has not been turned on since just after quakecon in the summer.

mandy and i put a bid down on a house in lewisville over the weekend.  we found out today that the house was purchased by someone hoping to ‘flip it’ to make some money.  turns out it’s hard to get a loan for a house that shows it was just purchased less than 30 days ago.  so now, mandy and i are in a holding pattern, looking for more houses while we find out more about our options with this house.

i cannot believe it’s been so long since i wrote a last blog post.  i realize i say that almost every time i post now.  perhaps i should change that eh?

ya’ll take care.  i’m flying out to anaheim this saturday for a week long conference my work is hosting.  i think it will be a fun expearence to meet some of our members, but with over 8000 people from around the world expected to walk through during the 3 day expo, i’m sure i have a lot of work ahead of me.

no more weekend. :(

mandy and i had a great weekend together.  we really just stayed in and she got a good portion of her red brick pictures edited and ready to upload and i finally got the dual xeon box up and running.  i found out the xeons are 3.0ghz each, so i am going to upgrade my main rig and use it’s current parts for a nice remote access server, maybe at mandy’s house.

this morning mandy and i went to church and then decided we would go get her a nice point and shoot camera for her to carry around.  she’s had her eye on the nikon coolpix s4 for some time now, so we went and got it for her.  (the s10 is out, but not available in stores at this time, even though it’s been out since last fall.)

tonight we met up with my mom to move a queens size matress to my house and help her move a freezer from her storage to susan’s house.  after mandy and i lugged the mattress up to my apartment, we found that the queen is just a few inches longer than the day bed thing that i have in my room.  bleh.

tonight we had buck-n-loons in arlington.  i love the irish chicken nachos, but those jalapenos, do a number on my stomach.

anyways, the weekend is up, :(

quiet sunday

mandy and i spent a quiet sunday around my apartment.  she’s been working on editing pictures, i’ve been watching the shield and sleeping on and off.  productive right?

quakecon 2007 recap

i’m back home tonight from quakecon 2007.  all in all, it was a good week, mostly because i was away from work with my mind far away from the projects we’ve been working on.

i did not fully enjoy quakecon this year, and i think mandy summed it up pretty well.  she says that i’m probably not as in to the experience as i used to be, because i’m actually in a position now, where i can do all of the same stuff from my apartment.  i can go download movies and music, and i can host and play games, all from the comfort of my desk chair.

i would have to say, this is the first year, the yelling, pornography, and immaturity in the over all crowd really stood out to me as a minus side to the fun and excitement that the vendors and large gaming crowd bring to the table.  i look back on my ‘prime’ and realize, i was just one of those kids in the crowd.  what happened to me?  am i grown up?

all i ever post about is work

i’ve been so busy with work and just trying to keep up recently that i’ve neglected this site and my other sites like flickr and facebook. work has been going well for the most part. we have a lot of really cool projects coming up that are really going to beef up the resume part, but are also really going to be a learning experience. it’s the kind of work that consumes the work day but really keep you interested in coming back to see what else is new.

mandy and i have been doing great. she got an apartment in the same complex as mine. she’s literally a walk across the parking lot now. she’s been really busy at work recently too, but we both went and joined 24 hr fitness last week, hoping it would motivate us to get out of the apartment and help us focus on our health more. we both get 5 50 minute training sessions with a personal trainer to start. i have a feeling she will sign up for more when those are done, just to help keep her motivated and help her keep goals set to be reached. not because she does not want to go, but because she is easily goal oriented.

anyways, it’s time for bed. we’re moving part of our office to a building across the way from our current one now. so we’re setting up a wireless link like the one below between the two buildings. in the end, it will look a lot like this, but more the size and shape of a pizza box when it’s up.

one of those guys is my boss, the other is our unix systems admin.
